The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate recognised the need for efficient, transparent, and sustainable waste transport at 475 diverse government locations across the Netherlands. The platform Seenons was selected as the key player to drive this transformation. This strategic partnership marks the beginning of a six-year collaboration aimed at reorganising waste collection processes within influential government organisations, including the Council of Amsterdam and the Dutch Social Insurance Bank.

Our goal?
  Transitioning towards sustainable waste management.

The challenge: efficient, transparent, and sustainable waste transport at 475 government locations

At present, waste from various government locations is managed by a single logistics partner, leading to limited transparency regarding waste destinations and predominantly resulting in the categorisation of waste as residual.

This conventional approach not only has adverse environmental implications but also leads to the loss of valuable materials. Recognising these challenges, the Dutch Government decided to take proactive steps towards more sustainable waste management.

The solution:  waste management via the Seenons platform

Effective from January 1, 2023, the Dutch Government has entrusted Seenons with the task of setting up sustainable logistics for a majority of the waste streams. Seenons, a significant tech player in the waste industry, is well-equipped to assist the Government in minimising its environmental footprint.

The logistics for waste streams at all 475 locations will be meticulously organised, ensuring that each waste stream is paired with an efficient and sustainable logistics partner through the Seenons Platform. The Dutch Government will oversee the proper routing of separated waste streams to the appropriate processors, thus enabling the most efficient, effective, and circular waste processing methods.

"We are standing at the start of a very valuable and long partnership with the Dutch Government, and we will work together on improving and growing toward completely sustainable waste management. Right now, there is still the challenge of efficiently processing the different waste streams after they have been collected by the different logistics partners. This is, for example, due to the specific locations spread throughout The Netherlands where the processors are based (think of driving as few kilometers as possible). In every area, we want to be as transparent as possible about where the waste is from and where it is ending up."

– Joost Kamermans, CEO and co-founder of Seenons

"The choice to work with Seenons was very carefully made. To reorganise our waste logistics and processing is an important part of our sustainability goals. We can make a significant impact with this. Aside from the tech expertise Seenons offers by being able to match each location and waste stream with the right logistics partner, they are also able to give us insights into the environmental impact. In the end, their tech expertise can also help us find the right processors. All in all, it enables us to run our processes more efficiently and also make smarter procurement decisions. Through buying and using waste is created. We are looking forward to working together and the path we are taking towards our sustainable goals."

- Maurice Goudsmith, Waste and Materials Manager at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate

This partnership serves as a blueprint for achieving sustainable waste management practices within government organizations, while also inspiring other entities to embark on their journey towards circular waste management.
